Plastic Manufacturers to protest on July 10 over 5% excise tax

The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) has declared its intention to embark on a nationwide demonstration on Wednesday, July 10 over imposed 5% excise tax on locally produced plastic products.

The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) has declared its intention to embark on a nationwide demonstration on Wednesday, July 10 over the imposed 5% excise tax on locally produced plastic products.

Speaking at a conference held in Accra on Wednesday, June 26, Ebbo Botwe, the President of the association called on Dr Bawumia to come to meet their demand, or else, would be forced to embark on a strike.

“We are appealing to the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumuia to intervene in this matter because the effect of this consumer tax will really affect the masses, the common man, the common woman will suffer extreme hardship”, Ebbo Botwe appealed.

However, government have not met their demand resulting to another press conference today, Tuesday, July 2 in Accra.

The President of the association, Ebbo Botwe announced that the demonstration will be in collaboration with the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers and Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana.

The demonstration will start at Obra spot at Circle through to the Accra Technical University and end at the Ministry of Finance with over 400 participants.

The Association is urging all members to partake in the demonstration for their concerns to be addressed.
