The People’s National Convention (PNC) is embroiled in controversy after its chairman and aspiring flagbearer, David Apasera, rejected the results of the party’s national congress held on September 7.
Apasera alleged that the Electoral Commission conducted a fraudulent and biased election, despite an earlier injunction from the Accra High Court.
Bernard Mornah was declared the flagbearer with 1,138 votes, but Apasera claims that the election was compromised and that Mornah and the Electoral Commission conspired against him.
Apasera hinted at legal action to challenge the results. Meanwhile, Samson Asaki Awingobit was elected National Chairman of the PNC, defeating Hajia Hajara with 893 votes.
Apasera’s rejection of the results has thrown the party into confusion, with some members calling for calm and others demanding an investigation into the allegations.
The PNC’s national congress was marred by delays due to an injunction filed by Apasera’s camp, and it appears that the party’s internal struggles are far from over.
