Police have arrested 10 persons in connection with an act of vandalism at the Nyanyano Palace, following an incident that occurred on the night of Sunday, February 1, and has renewed tensions in the community.
According to the police, the suspects, allegedly led by a self-styled chief, Nana Kwasi Annan Wiabo, stormed the palace and vandalised its main entrance and metal fence as part of an ongoing chieftaincy dispute.
A joint police and military operation was subsequently deployed to the area, leading to the arrest of Kojo Asirifi, 65; Alfred Awotwi, 47; Nii Armah, 43; Okoh Boas, 25; and Daniel Odartey, 20.
Five additional suspects were also picked up during the operation. They are Apau Kwabena, 61; Newland Akrasi, 28; Christian Addai, 17; Kenneth Arthur, 21; and Kojo Otabil, 62.
All 10 suspects are currently in custody at the Millennium City District Police Headquarters, where they are assisting with investigations into the incident.
Police sources told Citi News that the alleged leader of the group, Nana Kwasi Annan Wiabo, managed to escape during the operation and is currently being sought by security agencies.
Following the incident, security has been intensified in Nyanyano, with the palace placed under police surveillance to prevent further disturbances as investigations continue.
