Police have arrested some 50 members of the Democracy Hub group after going against police directives to stop a planned protest at the Jubilee House.
Despite warnings from the police, hundreds of protesters gathered at the 37 Trotro Station in Accra on Thursday, September 21, 2023, to participate in the #OccupyJubilee House protest.
The protesters are demanding a range of reforms, including a reduction in the cost of living, an end to corruption, and improved governance.
On Wednesday the police in a statement said it had obtained a court injunction to stop the protest, but the group responding to the police statement also indicated that no notice was served them hence protestors gathered at the 37 trotro station to go on with the planned march to Jubilee House.
The police responded by arresting several protesters including some of the organizers who are currently in custody at the regional police headquarters in Accra Central.
According to protestors, the government has mismanaged the country for far too long hence the need to send a message to officials.
