The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video assaulting a young man with a machete beside a fuel tanker.
The arrest was made on Tuesday, April 9, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation. The suspect, identified as Dawuda Sumaila, a tanker driver’s mate, is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
According to the Police, the violent incident occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Anyinam, a community in the Eastern Region.
The disturbing footage, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage and calls for swift justice.
In the video, Sumaila is seen wielding a machete and physically assaulting the victim in broad daylight.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement, assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served and maintaining law and order.
Investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the assault are ongoing.
