The Western North Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the illegal possession and discharge of firearms during a funeral celebration at Attakrom, near Bibiani.
In a press release issued on April 4, 2025, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Michael Akekesi, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western North Region, stated that the arrests were made on April 2, 2025, at approximately 1400 hours.
The operation was carried out by the Western North Police Intelligence Department, with support from personnel of the Formed Police Unit.
The suspects, identified as 41-year-old Frank Afoko and 31-year-old Kojo Agyapong, were apprehended following investigations into a viral video that circulated on social media.
The video, recorded on March 14, 2025, captured a group of individuals openly discharging firearms, including a pistol and shotguns, without lawful authority at a funeral event.
According to the police statement, both suspects admitted during interrogation by the Regional Investigation Team, led by the Crime Officer, that they were the individuals featured in the footage. They have since been detained to assist with further investigations, while efforts are underway to locate and apprehend other individuals involved in the incident who remain at large.
The Western North Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region.
Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could assist in the arrest of the remaining suspects.
