The IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has dismantled a human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate at Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region, arresting 22 suspects.

According to a police statement, the operation took place on 12 February 2026, with support from Combat Teams and the Surveillance Unit of the Ghana Police Service. Intelligence-led investigations led officers to a primary location in Pokuase-Afiaman, where they discovered a large-scale cyber fraud hub, often referred to as a “Yahoo Boy” base.

The suspects were found actively operating computer systems believed to facilitate international internet fraud. Preliminary investigations revealed a structured hierarchy within the syndicate, including individuals tasked with enforcing control over trafficked persons.

Police believe the syndicate is part of a sophisticated transnational criminal network engaged in both human trafficking and cyber fraud. Some of the younger suspects may themselves be victims of coercion or forced labour.

“The Ghana Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating organised crime, protecting vulnerable persons, and ensuring that all individuals involved in human trafficking and cyber-related offences are brought to justice,” the statement concluded.
