Five suspects have been arrested and another shot dead during a series of intelligence-led operations targeting armed robbery gangs responsible for attacks on gold shops, mining sites and local communities.

The police operations, conducted between August and 12 September, recovered three AK-47 assault rifles, 357 rounds of ammunition, five magazines, two locally manufactured pistols, five BB cartridges, two vehicles, cutlasses and a metal bar.

Addressing a news conference, Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh, said one suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers during the raids.

Specialist police units have now been deployed to the affected mining communities to reinforce security and allow residents to carry out their daily activities safely.

He revealed that members of the network are connected to earlier violent robberies at Akokoamong, near Offinso, and were already standing trial at the Bekwai Circuit Court over the robbery of a gold buyer at Offinso Abofour in July 2025.
