The Ghana Police Service has dismantled a gang behind a series of robberies targeting financial institutions, particularly rural banks, across several regions of Ghana including the Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Western and Ahafo Regions.
Ten (10) suspects have so far been arrested, three (3) got killed during an exchange of gunfire with the Police. A manhunt is underway to get others still at large arrested.
The suspects are; Akwesi Agyei (Cobra), Ibrahim Alhassan, Samuel Appiah (Akwesi Mugu), Francis Acquah (Preman), David Obuobi (Wasty), Martin Akansina (One Billion), Nana Yaw Frimpong (Mystical), Kojo Atingawo (Borga), Samuel Akwasi Gyan, Stephen Sey, Kwaku Peprah (X5; deceased); Boozin (deceased), Kwabena Owusu Ansah (at large) and Albert (at large).
The operation also led to the recovery of the following exhibits:
Three (3) AK-47 assault rifles
One (1) single barrel gun with one AAA ammunition
Seven (7) pump action guns and 96 rounds of AAA ammunition
Three (3) Bruni pistols with 40 rounds of ammunition
One (1) M&P pistol with 4 rounds of ammunition
Cash sum of GH¢18,845.00, 104USD, 190 Liberian Dollars, 5,800 Niara, 31,000 CFA and quantity of assorted GH¢ coins
Six (6) vehicles
Four (4) motorbikes
Assorted mobile phones and jewelries
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, commended all police officers and members of the public whose support and credible information contributed to the success of the operation.
The IGP has in recognizing the major roles of some police officers promoted 12 of them. The officers included three (3) Chief Inspectors granted direct entry to the Police Academy to be commissioned into the senior officer corps of the Service, three (3) Inspectors promoted to the rank of Chief Inspectors, two (2) Sergeants promoted to the rank of Inspectors, one (1) Corporal promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and three (3) Constables promoted to the rank of Lance Corporals.
The Ghana Police Service once again assures the public of its commitment to pursuing all remaining suspects and to sustain efforts aimed at protecting life and property across the country.
