The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has refuted media reports suggesting that some police officers were detained for arresting a judge over a traffic offence.
In a statement signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the CID, Superintendent of Police Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the Department described the reports as “not just false, but baseless and without merit.”
According to the CID, the facts of the matter are rooted in a petition received from a Circuit Court Judge on April 7, 2025. The judge alleged that on December 13, 2024, four officers from the Adenta Divisional Police Command — led by Inspector Godwin Dey — harassed her, assaulted her court clerk, and wrongfully towed her vehicle from the frontage of the Adenta Court Complex to the Adenta Police Station.
She also stated that a formal complaint she filed with the Divisional Command had yet to receive a response.
Following the petition, the CID launched investigations into the matter. As part of the process, the officers named — Inspector Godwin Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, G/Sgt Dasebre Oti Boateng (No.53349), and G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa (No.53852) — were invited to the CID Headquarters to give their side of the story.
“They left the CID headquarters immediately after their statements were taken,” Superintendent Darkwah stated.
“At no point were the officers detained as has been falsely reported.”
The CID urged the public to disregard the false publication, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing in accordance with established procedures.
“The Police Administration will continue with the investigation into the case in line with laid down procedures,” the statement added.
“We would like to assure the general public that, whereas the Police Administration will stand by its officers who follow the rules in the discharge of their lawful duties, any reported incidents of misconduct by officers towards members of the public will be promptly investigated and the necessary actions taken.”
