A swift intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has foiled a planned armed robbery in Accra, resulting in the death of two suspects and the injury of a police officer.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the operation was carried out on Monday, July 15, 2025, following credible intelligence that a gang of five armed men had lodged at a hotel in Labadi and were planning to rob a foreign national in the Cantonments area.

While the suspects were en route to their target location in a Toyota Yaris vehicle, they detected police surveillance and opened fire on the officers. One officer was shot in the legs and underarm during the exchange.

“The police returned fire, leading to gunshot wounds to two of the suspects who were later pronounced dead at the Police Hospital,” the statement said.

The injured officer is currently on admission and responding to treatment.

A search at the scene led to the recovery of two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other suspicious items believed to be connected to the foiled robbery.
