An attempted highway robbery on the Tutuka-Akrofuom road in the Obuasi East Municipality was swiftly disrupted by police in the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of key evidence.
According to the Obuasi Divisional Police Command, the night patrol team responded to a distress call around 12:15 a.m. reporting that a group of armed men had mounted a roadblock and were attacking motorists along the stretch.
Upon reaching the scene, the patrol officers spotted a group of over five suspected robbers, who immediately fled into the bush, abandoning two unregistered motorbikes and a machete at the roadside.

During the operation, one of the suspects, identified as 18-year-old Pascal Yenkye, attempted to evade arrest by riding a motorbike directly toward the police vehicle at high speed. Officers managed to immobilize him with a shot to the left leg, causing him to fall off the motorbike.

The injured suspect was quickly transported to the Obuasi Government Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under armed police guard.
Meanwhile, the police say efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene. The abandoned items have been retrieved as part of ongoing investigations.
