The Tema Regional Police Command has foiled an attempted robbery at Community 24 in the Adjei-Kojo District of Ashaiman, leading to the death of three suspected robbers following an exchange of gunfire with police officers.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Tema Region, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 1:30 a.m. The Ashaiman Divisional Police Intelligence Team received information about an ongoing robbery at a private residence within the community and immediately deployed officers to the scene.
The police said upon arrival, officers encountered six young men wearing face masks and hoodies. The suspects were reportedly armed with machetes, guns, and other offensive weapons. Police officers attempting to intervene came under fire from the suspects, prompting a return of fire in self-defence.
During the exchange of gunfire, three of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds. They were later pronounced dead after succumbing to their injuries. The remaining three suspects, believed to have also sustained gunshot wounds, managed to escape from the scene and are currently on the run.
A search conducted at the scene led to the retrieval of several items believed to have been used by the suspects. These included three face masks, three machetes, and one unregistered Royal 125 motorbike. Police indicated that the recovered exhibits will aid ongoing investigations into the attempted robbery.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy. Meanwhile, hospitals and health facilities within the area have been alerted and directed to notify the police through emergency lines should any male persons present with gunshot wounds.
The Tema Regional Police Command commended the operational team for their swift response and professionalism, noting that their actions helped prevent possible harm to residents and damage to property.
The police also appealed to the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to help maintain peace and security within communities.
