A notorious armed robber, identified as Osman Majid Abdul Sadik, alias Cross, has been gunned down during a police intelligence-led operation in Offinso in the Ashanti North Region.
Cross, who was on the police wanted list for multiple robberies and killings in Mankranso and surrounding communities, was fatally shot after exchanging gunfire with officers during a coordinated operation led by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command.
Police intelligence had earlier revealed that Cross and his gang were hiding in three separate locations within Offinso. Acting on the intelligence, the command deployed a joint team comprising three senior officers and other ranks, using both branded and unmarked service vehicles to simultaneously raid the identified hideouts.
Upon reaching one of the locations at Offinso Anyankaso, the suspect opened fire from his room and attempted to escape through the ceiling. The police returned fire tactically, leading to the arrest of two injured suspects.
A subsequent search of the premises uncovered a cache of weapons and items believed to have been used in several robberies. The recovered items include:
One pump-action gun loaded with six rounds of ammunition
One black Smith & Wesson pistol
50 rounds of 9mm ammunition
One unmarked pistol
Two spent cartridges
Three smart mobile phones, two key pad phones, mobile phone accessories, and one Apple laptop
One machete, a smock and ash singlet with talismans
Two body armours (black and brown), two pairs of long boots, a picture frame of his gang, and a Ghana Card bearing the suspect’s photo and name
Cash amounting to GHS 2,680.00
The two suspects, later identified as Abdul Sadik alias Cross (25) and Abdulai Sadik (20), were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital for medical attention but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
During preliminary interrogation before his death, Cross admitted to being behind several robberies in the Manso area and confessed to killing three people at Mankranso. He also named his accomplices — Kingkong, Roy, Fii, Raph, Koboo, Ali, and Ike — alleging that some of the gang members are in possession of weapons hidden at a mining site in Manso.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the matter and intensified efforts to arrest the remaining suspects and retrieve all weapons in their possession.
Police have assured the public that they remain committed to dismantling criminal networks across the region and ensuring the safety and security of residents.
