Police gun down two robbery suspects in shootout at Atebubu

The Ghana Police Service, in an anti-robbery operation in Atebubu in the Bono East region, engaged a highway robbery gang in a shootout, resulting in the death of two (2) of the suspects.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on 30th July 2025, a team of Police officers on patrol duty came across a robbery attack on some commuters along the Atebubu highway.

Upon sighting the Police team, the suspects started firing towards the Police. The Police returned fire, leading to two of the suspects being fatally wounded. They were rushed to the Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. The remaining suspects fled the scene into the nearby bushes.

A search at the scene led to the retrieval of a short gun loaded with two (2) live cartridges, four (4) spent cartridges, and a machete.

Intensive efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
