The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for Gideon Baah, an alleged sub-chief of Feteh Kakraba, who is believed to be the mastermind behind a car theft ring operating across the Greater Accra Region.

Baah, also known by the alias “Nana,” is reported to have gone into hiding after police attempted to arrest him at his Millennium City residence in Kasoa. He is suspected of orchestrating a string of fraudulent car rental schemes that have left multiple victims in his wake.

According to police sources, Baah and his accomplice, 37-year-old Nana Anderson – who uses several aliases including Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, Willson Kojo Bismark, and Djan Ohene Bismark – used forged ECOWAS ID cards and driver’s licenses bearing different names but the same photo to deceive car rental companies.

Anderson was arrested on April 5, 2025, at Atasemanso in Kumasi through a police intelligence operation. He was charged with forgery of documents, abetment of crime, stealing, and dishonestly receiving, and arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court.

Presiding Judge His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, who sat in for Jojo Amoah Hagan, granted Anderson bail of GH¢200,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified. He is also required to report to the police every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

Chief Inspector Dzibordi Nego, prosecuting, told the court that on March 25, 2025, Anderson approached a car rental associate of businessman Richard Gyamfi Asamoah and posed as a customer. He rented a Hyundai Elantra (registration number GT 114-25), worth GH¢156,000, and failed to return it.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle was handed over to Baah at McCarthy Hills for GH¢4,000. The complainant raised the alarm after realizing the vehicle’s tracking device had been tampered with at Dansoman. A photograph taken during the rental transaction later helped police identify and arrest Anderson.

Further investigations uncovered a wider scheme in which the pair allegedly stole a Kia Forte at Haatso, a Honda Civic at Amasaman, and a Kia Ultima at Spintex between January and March this year.

In his caution statement, Anderson admitted to his involvement and claimed Baah provided accommodation in return for his role in the operations.

Police attempts to arrest Baah at his known address were unsuccessful, and he is now on the run. He is wanted on charges including forgery, abetment of stealing, and dishonestly receiving stolen property.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to assist with information that could lead to Baah’s arrest.
