The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs following a targeted intelligence-led operation by the National Highway Patrol Unit.
The suspect, identified as Ernest Mohammed Adjiri, was apprehended in the Greater Accra Region while transporting the contraband in a Hyundai i10 taxi cab with registration number GW 9832-22.
According to police sources, the operation formed part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and related crimes. Upon interception, officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and discovered three fertilizer sacks filled with 120 slabs of compressed dried leaves, believed to be narcotic substances.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the substances had been carefully concealed for the purpose of transportation, possibly for distribution. During interrogation, the suspect admitted ownership of the items.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court,” a police statement noted, adding that further investigations are underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the suspected drugs.
Authorities say the arrest underscores the police’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and keeping illicit substances off the streets.
