The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, has launched an investigation into a fire outbreak that occurred early this morning, December 17, 2024, at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.
The facility houses ballot boxes for the Ablekuma North Constituency, raising concerns about the incident’s implications.
Authorities have assured the public that any individuals or groups found responsible for the fire will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
In a statement, the police urged residents to remain calm while investigations continue. Officials emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace and order during this period.
The fire incident coincides with heightened tensions in Ablekuma North following the recently held elections.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate has petitioned the Electoral Commission to re-collate and re-declare her as the winner.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has insisted that any electoral disputes must be resolved through the High Court, as per the Constitution.
In a related development, police have updated the public on arrests made nationwide in connection with post-election unrest. Of the 132 suspects detained, 45 remain in custody, 71 have been granted police inquiry bail, and 16 are on court bail, as legal proceedings unfold.
