The Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an incident captured in a viral video, in which an unidentified individual is seen obstructing police officers in the lawful execution of their duties and subsequently issuing threats against the Ghana Police Service.
According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the Command’s attention was drawn to two separate video recordings circulating on social media platforms. The first clip shows the individual confronting and obstructing police personnel during an operation, while the second captures the same person making threatening statements directed at the Service.
“These actions not only constitute criminal offences under Ghanaian law but also represent a clear attempt to undermine the authority of the Police and disturb public order,” the statement noted.
The Police Command has strongly condemned the individual’s conduct, stressing that such behavior has no place in a democratic and law-abiding society.
“Obstructing a police officer in the performance of lawful duties is a criminal offence, as is issuing threats against public officers or institutions,” the statement emphasized.
Investigations have been launched to establish the identity and whereabouts of the suspect for arrest and possible prosecution. The individual involved has been urged to report to the nearest Police Station to assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, the Command is calling on the general public to refrain from acts that hinder law enforcement efforts and to channel any grievances or concerns through legitimate and lawful means.
“The Accra Regional Command remains committed to maintaining law and order and will continue to uphold the rights and safety of all citizens,” Supt. Obeng assured.
Members of the public with any information that may assist the ongoing investigations are encouraged to contact the Police via emergency numbers 18555 or 112, or report to the nearest police station.
