The Accra Regional Police Command says it has commenced investigations into isolated incidents of violence that marred the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run held on Friday, 11th July 2025.
According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the disturbances included cases of assault and disorder at some polling stations, which caused temporary disruptions to the otherwise peaceful election process.
“Police officers intervened promptly to restore calm and ensure voting continued without further interruptions,” the statement noted.
The Police say efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators of the violence, adding that anyone found to have engaged in acts of violence, intimidation, or breaches of the peace will face the full rigours of the law.
Superintendent Obeng also appealed to the public to support the ongoing investigations by providing relevant information.
“We encourage anyone with information on the persons involved in these incidents to contact the Police through our emergency numbers 18555 or 191,” she urged.
The Accra Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and integrity of the electoral process.
