The Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting incident involving a policewoman.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, in the vicinity of Tetegu in the Weija area. According to a statement released by the police on Tuesday, January 20, preliminary findings suggest that the officer allegedly shot a taxi driver following a confrontation.

The victim, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab, was rushed to the police hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police, the situation escalated after the shooting, resulting in the policewoman sustaining serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene, causing injuries to her head and both legs. The injured officer is currently receiving medical treatment.

As part of the ongoing investigation, officers have retrieved key exhibits from the scene, including a live 9mm round, a magazine, and an empty 9mm cartridge. The Police Service assures the public that further updates will be communicated as more details emerge.
