The Ghana Police Service has provided new information on the case involving the death of a 13-year-old girl in Kokrobite, allegedly caused by her father.
The suspect, identified as 54-year-old mason Isaac Adonteng, is reported to have repeatedly disciplined his daughter, Celestine Adonteng, in a manner police describe as “severe and unacceptable.”
According to the preliminary report from the Weija Divisional Command, the incident occurred after the father accused the child of taking food meant for her younger sibling. Witness accounts suggest that the girl was subjected to prolonged physical punishment inside their home.
Police say they later found the child unresponsive and rushed her to the Police Hospital, where she was unfortunately confirmed dead. Officers who responded to the scene retrieved several objects believed to have been used during the assault as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Accra Regional Police Command has condemned the actions, stressing that no form of discipline should put a child’s life at risk. They urged parents and guardians to adopt non-violent methods when correcting children and reminded the public that such incidents constitute a serious criminal offense.
Authorities further appealed to community members to promptly report any signs of child abuse or harmful disciplinary practices, emphasizing that early intervention can save lives.
The suspect has been arrested as investigations continue, and the police are preparing the case docket for possible prosecution.
