The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that happened on the evening of Sunday, October 27, 2024, during political campaign activities in the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region.
The incident left four individuals injured.
According to police reports, two of the injured have been treated and discharged, while the other two remain in the hospital receiving medical attention.
Authorities have been actively pursuing the case since Sunday night and are reportedly closing in on a suspect.
The Police Service has assured the public that steps are being taken to locate and arrest the perpetrator, ensuring they face justice.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison has denied any involvement of her supporters in the gunfire incident that erupted during the mini rally in Agona West on Sunday, October 28.
The incident reportedly occurred when supporters of Chris Arthur, a parliamentary aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were returning from a campaign launch held in Otinkorang, a locality within Agona West. While en route, they encountered a group of Cynthia Morrison’s supporters, who were conducting a separate mini-rally at Agona Nyankrom.
As the groups crossed paths, gunshots rang out, injuring Haruna Rashid, who serves as the campaign manager for Chris Arthur. Rashid sustained a gunshot wound to his ribs and was immediately transported to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital for medical attention. Other individuals with minor injuries were also taken to the hospital amid the ensuing chaos.
