Police investigating the violent robbery attack on two gold-buying shops in the Mpohor District of the Takoradi Division have made a major breakthrough with the recovery of weapons, cash, and personal items believed to belong to the armed gang.
The discovery was made on Sunday, August 17, 2025, when a Kuntanase District patrol team in the Ashanti Region intercepted a suspicious white Toyota Sienta with registration number NR 289-24 near a bushy area along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road. Two men spotted beside the vehicle, allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be narcotics, fled into the bush when they saw the police and escaped despite a brief pursuit.
A search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered a cache of items directly linked to the robbery. Investigators retrieved a white hoodie and a pair of camouflage Wellington boots, which matched the clothing worn by one of the masked assailants captured on CCTV during the gold shop attack.

Police also discovered GH¢18,000 concealed in the glove compartment, suspected to be part of the stolen money.
In addition, officers found an AK-47 assault rifle (serial number withheld), a locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines loaded with 30 rounds each, four packets of AK-47 ammunition containing 25 rounds each, and seven loose rounds.
Other items retrieved from the vehicle included a Huawei smartphone, cowrie shells, sandals, a Ghana Card, and a temporary driver’s license.
According to police, the identity documents are being withheld for further investigation.
The vehicle has since been impounded while all exhibits have been secured for forensic analysis as part of ongoing efforts to identify and arrest the suspects behind the robbery.
Police say the recovery of the weapons, ammunition, cash, and clothing represents a significant lead in the manhunt for the armed gang, and security operations have been intensified nationwide to bring the perpetrators to justice.
