A total of 42 suspects have been arrested in a major crackdown on drug peddling and prostitution in Ayamfuri, following an intelligence-led operation by the Central North Regional Police Command’s Special Taskforce, led by DCOP Abraham Acquaye.
The sting, carried out on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., targeted high-risk criminal zones within Upper Denkyira West and resulted in the arrest of 32 foreign female nationals aged between 22 and 32, and 10 Ghanaian males aged between 20 and 31.
The coordinated raids took place at two separate brothels and ghettos, where the suspects were allegedly involved in prostitution and drug-related activities.
Recovered from the scenes were: Quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concoctions laced with narcotic substances
The Regional Police Commander, addressing the media, stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt organised crime and enhance public safety in the region.
Initial interrogations revealed a disturbing layer to the arrests. Several of the foreign women claimed to be victims of human trafficking, having been lured into Ghana under false promises of legitimate employment.
Upon arrival, they were allegedly coerced into prostitution, some forced to repay large sums to traffickers before being allowed to leave or regain freedom.
“These individuals were deceived, trafficked and forced into activities against their will,” said DCOP Acquaye.
“It’s a stark reminder of the growing complexity of transnational crime networks.”
The 32 foreign suspects will be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigation and repatriation processes.
The 10 Ghanaian males are currently being screened, and those found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly.
DCOP Acquaye reaffirmed the Police Command’s resolve to crack down on crime syndicates, pledging continued operations across the Central North Region.
“We will not relent in our mandate to protect communities and uproot the elements threatening peace and order,” he emphasized.
The Central North Regional Police are urging the public to report suspicious activity and assist in efforts to combat human trafficking and drug abuse.
