A security expert, Mr. Paul Boateng has revealed that the political recruitment in the country has been a major cause of security breaches by some men in uniforms.

Speaking in an interview on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Tuesday, March 15, he said as far recruitment of personnel is done through human interface, there is a possible infiltration of such criminals into the force.

He noted that what needs to be done is to seal the loopholes that has allowed the hooligans into the service.

According to Paul Boateng, he believes the political recruitment has been a major factor to the cause of the in-house security breaches by some members of the security agencies.

“As far as it continues to be a human interface, there is a possible infiltration of such hoodlums but what has brought the numbers more needs to be tackled and I believe that the political recruitment is the major contributing factor to this mess” he stated.

The expert also noted, one other factor is that the top hierarchy of the security agencies do not have the power to do proper background checks to rule out a person being brought in by MP or politician.

“Our checks has established that the political recruitment is the cause because the security agencies do not have the veto power to turn down a person being brought in by an MP or a government official. You don’t have anything to do knowing very well this person is not fit but because you are under the politician you are nobody and that is why a politician will sit on radio and TV and say I sent 10 guys to police, national security and other forces” he added.

He added that there has to be a continuous profile checks after the training to ascertain and obtain the financial inflows of the personnel of the various services.

“One other thing is, after the training, police heads must conduct a profile check of the lifestyle of some of the personnel. Their financial inflows and source of income aside the CAGD monthly salary must questioned” he said.
