Former Municipal Chief Executive of Dormaa Central municipality in the Bono region, Hon. Gordon Asubonteng, has highlighted the detrimental impact of political interference on Ghana’s education system, citing it as a major obstacle to academic advancement.
In an interview with Gift FM, Hon. Asubonteng underscored the significance of education in shaping individuals’ lives, emphasizing that it is a lifelong journey beginning from birth and extending through various forms of training before formal schooling. He emphasized that the core values of education include integrity and virtues.
Hon. Asubonteng lamented the disparity in academic performance between public and private schools, attributing the issue to societal failures and the erosion of educational values.
He emphasized the importance of impartiality in delivering quality education and called for a concerted effort to prioritize educational leadership devoid of political influence.
Highlighting the politicization of Ghana’s educational landscape, Hon. Asubonteng pointed out that this phenomenon has contributed significantly to the underperformance of public schools.
He stressed the need to uphold standards, virtues, and values in education, cautioning parents and guardians against falling prey to political agendas when seeking quality education for their children.
