A 21-year-old porter, Denis Boateng, has been remanded into police custody by the Accra Circuit Court for stealing a Hyundai Grace commercial vehicle valued at GH¢40,000.

Boateng, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing, appeared before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He is expected to reappear in court on April 28, 2025, for sentencing.

Presenting the facts of the case, Prosecutor Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye told the court that the complainant had entrusted his Hyundai Grace, with registration number GS 2879-17, to one Wisdom Frimpong for commercial use.

However, on December 30, 2024, the vehicle developed a fault and was parked at the Dansoman Korle-Bu trotro station. When the complainant and his driver returned with a mechanic on December 5 to fix it, the vehicle had vanished.

After searching for months without success, a formal report was lodged with the police on April 8, 2025.

Boateng was eventually spotted by informants at the Darkuman Police Station and handed over to the Kaneshie Police. During questioning, he confessed to stealing the vehicle and admitted selling it to a scrap dealer at Darkuman Cable Wireless for GH¢42,000.

Efforts to trace the alleged buyer have so far proven futile.

Following investigations, Boateng was charged and brought before the court. His plea of guilty prompted the judge to remand him into custody pending final sentencing on the next adjourned date.
