Labour Expert, Mr. Senyo Agyabeng has criticized the practice of outgoing governments engaging in last-minute mass recruitment before leaving office, describing it as unethical.

He specifically pointed to the outgone New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, arguing that such employment decisions should comply with the Labour Act and not be used as political manoeuvres.

Speaking on the issue, Mr. Agyabeng questioned the financial capacity of the NPP administration to sustain these appointments, stressing that the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government cannot be held responsible for the revocation of such post-election employments.

He asserted that economic stability must be prioritized before validating new appointments to ensure that employees are adequately remunerated.

He further called for legislative reforms to address the recurring trend of outgoing governments rushing to make last-minute recruitments.

According to him, the Transitional Act should be amended to prevent such practices, as they pose a risk to the country’s financial stability and burden incoming administrations.

Mr. Agyabeng emphasized that political transitions should be handled with integrity, urging policymakers to implement stricter regulations that safeguard the public treasury from being used irresponsibly in the final days of an administration.
