A pregnant woman and two others have still not been found after a boat capsized on the Oti River at Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality.
The accident is said to have occurred on Tuesday evening while the boat was carrying some 11 passengers from the Dambai market to Njari, a fishing community.
Since the incident, personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization and Navy operatives have been on site to rescue survivors.
However, eight (8) persons were rescued with the three (3) yet to be found.
According to reports, travellers resorted to using canoes to cross the river following the breakdown of the only ferry on the river.
Chairman of boat operators, Mr Clement Kwasi Checki, has since expressed deep grief over the incident.
“I am deeply grieved by the loss of lives due to the boat accident; my thoughts are with the bereaved families, and I pray to the Almighty to give them strength to withstand this immense loss.”
