The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has on Wednesday, 18th December 2024, commissioned the magnificent twin tower multi-purpose lecture block at the University of Professional Studies in Accra.

The ten-storey multipurpose Twin Tower building houses lecture halls, lecturers’ offices, meeting and reading rooms, commercial and residential areas as well as ancillary facilities for the growing student community in a university that has fast become a world-class higher education provider in both academic and professional disciplines.

Prior to the commissioning, President Akufo-Addo also joined the Fifth Session of the 16th Congregation of the School of Graduate Studies at the University, where he urged graduands to embrace the three guiding principles of hard work, excellence and patriotism.

Speaking at the congregation, the President underscored the importance of partnerships between academia and public institutions in building a stronger, more resilient Ghana and cited UPSA’s good progress as a reflection of the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only skilled, but are also agents of positive change in their communities.

He referred to the key role of education as the heartbeat of the nation’s development agenda whilst describing it as a great equalizer with the surest pathway to breaking the cycle of poverty and reducing inequality.

“Over the past eight years, my government has prioritised free secondary high school education, ensuring that every Ghanaian child, regardless of background, has access to quality education.”

“Our commitment does not stop there”, he continued, “we are actively pursuing reforms to enhance tertiary education in Ghana, improving access, governance and quality. These efforts aim to position institutions like UPSA to compete on the global stage while equipping students with the tools to thrive.”

President Akufo-Addo further praised the remarkable progress being made at the institution, which he said “continues to redefine professional education in Ghana.”

He said, the University of Professional Studies, Accra, “is a shining example of the transformative power of education and vision. From its humble beginnings as the Institute of Professional Studies, to its present status as one of Ghana’s leading institutions of higher learning, UPSA’s journey has been remarkable.”

An evolution he finds as ample proof of the dedication, resilience, and forward-thinking leadership that has become synonymous with academic excellence, professional training and nurturing graduates who are equipped to meet the demands of a dynamic and rapidly evolving world.
