President-Elect Mahama appoints Interim National Security Team

President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a six-member Interim National Security Coordinating Team to oversee and manage national security matters as his government prepares to take office.

President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a six-member Interim National Security Coordinating Team to oversee and manage national security matters as his government prepares to take office.

The team, which is set to begin its mandate on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, will be led by Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Minister for the Interior.

The team comprises experienced professionals with extensive expertise in security and defense.

The other members of the interim team include:

  • Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), former Chief of Defence Staff.
  • Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for National Security.
  • Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., former National Security Coordinator.
  • Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.).
  • COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.), former senior police officer.

This interim team will coordinate national security issues pending the appointment of substantive officeholders. The President-Elect’s office emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and continuity in security operations during the transition period.

The announcement underscores Mahama’s commitment to ensuring a seamless handover and safeguarding the nation’s security during this critical phase.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to the President-Elect.
