President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a Constitutional Review Committee to address gaps and challenges in the country’s constitutional framework.
The announcement was made on Sunday, January 19, 2025, fulfilling the President’s commitment to advancing the Constitutional Review Process.
The committee comprises eight distinguished members with expertise in governance, law, and public service. It is chaired by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, with Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Esi Ansah, and Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya serving as members. Dr. Akumperigeya will also act as the committee’s secretary.
The committee’s mandate includes reviewing the work of the 2010 Constitutional Review Commission and the 2023 Constitutional Review Consultative Committee.
It will engage key stakeholders to solicit views on proposals for amending the 1992 Constitution and make actionable recommendations to strengthen democratic governance.
“The composition of the committee reflects the President’s dedication to appointing individuals of proven expertise and a commitment to good governance,” stated Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President.
The committee has been tasked with presenting its recommendations within five months for the government’s consideration.
This initiative underscores the administration’s focus on addressing governance challenges and ensuring the constitution remains a dynamic instrument for national development.
