President John Dramani Mahama on Friday commissioned the Volta Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), marking a significant expansion of Ghana’s intelligence and security infrastructure.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed, who described the development as a major step toward strengthening national security.

Speaking after the event, the Interior Minister said the new regional command reinforces a key national principle: that security forms the foundation of development and that intelligence remains central to effective national protection.

President Mahama reaffirmed government’s commitment to modernizing the country’s intelligence and security systems as part of a broader push for sustainable development.

He highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in global security operations and stressed the need to extend the NSB’s presence nationwide to improve surveillance and safeguard Ghana’s digital space.

The newly commissioned Volta Regional Command will operate as a central hub for intelligence gathering, analysis, and security coordination within the region.

It is equipped with advanced technological systems and is integrated into both regional and national surveillance networks.

Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed commended the government for continuing to invest in national security infrastructure.

He announced that four additional regional NSB commands are expected to become operational by the end of the year, a move he said would significantly enhance the country’s intelligence capabilities.

After the commissioning, President Mahama and the Interior Minister proceeded to the 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration in Ho, where they joined dignitaries and residents in honouring farmers for their vital contributions to Ghana’s food security and national development.
