He pledged that, where wrongdoing is confirmed, perpetrators will be held accountable and victims will receive compensation.

Addressing the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Friday, President Mahama said he received the report last week, as part of his commitment to strengthen democratic values and curb political violence in Ghana.

He indicated that prosecutorial decisions and victim compensation mechanisms will follow once the Attorney General finalizes his recommendations.

The report, compiled by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, details violent incidents in both election cycles, including shootings and clashes involving political supporters and security personnel.

The findings have now been formally referred to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for legal review and further action.

Earlier, the President directed the IGP to establish a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) task force to probe the circumstances surrounding election-related deaths—a total of eight fatalities in 2020 and three in 2024. The inquiry included forensic analysis, witness interviews, and in-depth reviews in collaboration with the Electoral Commission.

In addition, the Attorney General has been tasked with assessing fair and adequate compensation for victims and their families, reinforcing the President’s insistence that measures toward redress and reform must be just, transparent, and inclusive.
