President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in the newly appointed and elected members of the Council of State at a ceremony held at Jubilee House on Tuesday.

The inauguration follows their successful election as representatives of Ghana’s 16 regions during the recent Council of State elections. Their induction marks the commencement of their advisory roles, offering guidance and oversight to the presidency on key national matters.

The former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, assumes leadership as the Chairman-designate of the Council. The newly sworn-in members include distinguished personalities such as former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, former Chief of Defence Staff Michael Samson-Oje, and the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.

Other members include Daasebre Boamah Darko, Chief of Akyem Kukuratumi; Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area; Justice Vida Amankwah Akoto-Bamfo, a retired Supreme Court judge; Mankpanwura Jakpa Achor-Ade Borenyi I, Paramount Chief of the Mankpan Traditional Area; and former Zebila MP Cletus Avoka.

President Mahama, in his address, emphasized the critical role of the Council in shaping national policies and ensuring good governance. He urged the members to bring their expertise and experience to bear in advising the presidency on matters of national interest.

The Council of State serves as an advisory body to the President, providing counsel on governance issues and national development strategies.
