President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the long-stalled Sewua Hospital by the end of 2025, emphasizing its crucial role in decongesting the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Speaking to the clergy in Kumasi, President Mahama acknowledged that several key projects initiated under his previous administration had been left unfinished. However, he assured that he remains dedicated to seeing them through.
“I’ve assured Otumfuo that we will complete the Sewua Hospital this year,” he stated. “Once completed, it will ease pressure on Komfo Anokye, allowing us to proceed with essential rehabilitation work there.”
The President also highlighted other stalled projects, including the Suame Interchange and various roadworks, which had faced funding constraints. He assured residents that his administration is actively seeking financial resources to expedite these developments.
“We are exploring funding sources to fast-track these projects and alleviate the difficulties Kumasi residents face,” he said.
Additionally, Mahama addressed the delayed second phase of the Kejetia Market project, which was impacted by Ghana’s debt restructuring. He revealed that with official negotiations now concluded, the government is set to resume bilateral discussions with lenders to get the project back on track.
“Now that we have finished negotiations with the official creditor committee, we can engage with lenders to restart work on the Kumasi Market Phase II,” he explained.
These commitments signal the President’s renewed focus on infrastructure development, aimed at improving healthcare access, easing traffic congestion, and revitalizing commercial activities in Kumasi.
