The Office of the Presidency has hinted that President Akufo-Addo is safe and unharmed after an accident involving his convoy.
Eugene Arhin, the Communications Director, clarified in a statement on May 19 that President Akufo-Addo was not in the convoy at the time of the accident, but rather in an aircraft on his way back to Accra following the burial of the late Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah.
“Fortunately, the President is safe and unharmed, as he travelled to Accra via military aircraft”, a portion of the statement read.
Meanwhile, Kwesi Arthur, the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser, died in the process; additionally, several close protection and police officers from the President’s security detail sustained varying degrees of injuries and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.
“The injured persons are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation,” Mr Arhin added.
