President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left Ghana on Tuesday, 16th March, 2021 for the Cote D’ivoire to attend the funeral of Mr. Hamed Bakayoko, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Cote D’ivoire which is slated for Wednesday, 17th March, 2021.
The President honored the invite in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He was accompanied by Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, some other key officials within the Presidency also joined the delegation to attend the funeral.
Mr. Hamed Bakayoko popularly known as; “Hambak” died in Germany from cancer aged 56. He earlier on tested positive for covid around February 18th, he was evacuated to France before being transferred to Germany where he passed on March 10th.
The Funeral programme scheduled for tomorrow shall see tributes reading, filing past of the mortal remains of the late Prime Minister and later followed by movement of the body on Thursday at Seguela (North) where interment shall follow on Friday in strict privacy of the family. However, the body of the Ivorian Prime Minister arrived in Abidjan the capital city on Saturday, 13th March, 2021 from Germany.
The President Nana Akufo-Addo shall return to the country on Wednesday, 17th March, 2021. However, in his absence, the Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia shall in accordance with Article 60 (8) of the Constitution, act in his stead
