President Mahama has ordered the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to probe allegations of corruption and bribery in the award of overseas scholarships.

The directive follows a discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM in Kumasi, during which Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), alleged that an individual paid money to secure a scholarship to study abroad.

The radio discussion, conducted in Twi, has attracted widespread public attention, raising concerns about transparency and fairness in the administration of government-sponsored scholarships.

President Mahama described the allegations as serious and a matter of grave public concern. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity and equal access to educational opportunities for all qualified citizens.

The NIB has been tasked to establish the factual basis of the claims, identify any individuals involved, and verify the circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction. Its findings are expected to be submitted to the President for further consideration and any necessary action.

Investigations are ongoing.
