President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the official groundbreaking for the much-anticipated ‘Big Push Programme’ will take place next week.

The initiative, a key promise of the National Democratic Congress during the 2024 general election campaign, aims to revamp Ghana’s infrastructure and accelerate economic recovery.

President Mahama revealed the timeline during his first meet the press, signaling the start of the first phase of the programme.

“Next week, I will cut the sod in three locations to signal the start of the Big Push programme. The first phase understandably covers mainly the road sector,” Mahama said.

He highlighted the significant decline in Ghana’s road infrastructure over the past eight years, noting that this year nearly 14 billion Ghana cedis sourced from oil and gold revenues have been allocated to the Big Push.

President Mahama indicated “Everyone will admit that over the last eight years, our road infrastructure has deteriorated remarkably. This year alone, almost 14 billion Ghana cedis of our oil and gold revenues have been earmarked for the Big Push programme.

“Critical road projects, such as the Ofanko and Sawambu roads, which were chronically underfunded, have been transferred under the Big Push programme and recently received a release of almost 1 billion cedis to ensure speedy completion by the end of the second quarter of next year,” he added.

President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the RESET agenda, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and good governance principles.

“I have remained unwavering in my commitment not only to the promise I made to you in the run-up to the 2024 elections, but to the principles of honesty, transparency and probity and accountability that define good governance,” he stated.

He underscored his determination to lay strong foundations for Ghana’s economic revival, institutional renewal, and enhanced public service delivery.

“I am resolute in laying foundations for economic recovery, resetting our institutions to reflect the demands of modern governance and enhanced service delivery for every Ghanaian,” President Mahama stressed.

Again, Mahama aims to fulfill the aspirations of Ghana’s forebears for economic independence and self-reliance, while restoring the country’s stature as a respected player on the international stage.

He emphasized “I am driven by a deep determination to see the dreams of our forebears for an economically independent and self-reliant Ghana realised in our lifetime.

“I am equally determined to restore Ghana’s rightful place as a respected voice and actor on the global stage,” he noted.
