Ghanaian consumers must brace themselves for another potential spike in petroleum prices during the upcoming pricing window unless the government steps in with urgent domestic relief measures, energy analyst Samson Addae has cautioned.

Addae indicated that persistent friction between Washington and Tehran continues to disrupt vital maritime trade routes. The ongoing geopolitical tension has severely squeezed petroleum supplies on the international market at a time when global demand is rapidly outgrowing available stock.

He noted that the structural deficit in global supply is directly squeezing local markets, putting immense upward pressure on retail pump rates.

“The international market is currently constrained because global consumption has far surpassed production, a situation worsened by persistent clashes between the US and Iran that continue to block critical shipping corridors,” Mr Addae explained. “Should the government fail to implement swift, locally designed relief mechanisms to absorb this shock, motorists should anticipate another upward adjustment in fuel costs by 15 September.”

Despite the grim short-term outlook, the analyst highlighted that strategic policies are already being formulated behind the scenes to cushion the national economy against international market volatility.

He expressed optimism that if state authorities strictly execute these planned interventions, the country could experience a visible relief in petroleum pricing over the coming months.

“There are pragmatic strategies currently in the pipeline aimed at arresting these persistent surges. Provided the administration fully carries out these expected measures, we ought to see pump prices easing for consumers in the near future,” he added.
