Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has advised Ghanaians to always put the interests of the country first in everything they do.

According to him, Ghana would not be where it is now if individuals, especially leaders, acted in the best interests of the country without ulterior motives.

“Whatever you are doing, you should be clear that you are doing everything in the interest of Ghana. If you do everything in the interest of the country without having any selfish motives, then this country will improve,” he told Joy News.

The renowned physician and cardio-thoracic surgeon added that he had contributed to the nation in several ways without putting his own interests first, and noted that he would be considered among the rich in Ghana if he was a thief.

“Since I came from Germany, planned the National Cardio-thoracic Centre at the age of 39 and built this centre without one cedi contribution from the government. I am talking about the block, and done many things and all in the interest of this country. Never thought about myself. If I were a thief, I would have been one of the very rich people in this country. If we all thought about Ghana, had the interest of this nation at heart, we will not be where we are now,” he stressed.

His remarks follow reports that he was arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and given a $2 million bail.

He is expected to answer questions on the purchase and usage of drones and other tools for the battle against illegal mining, as well as his suspected role in the disappearance of 500 excavators.
