Traffic congestion during peak hours is always a dreadful situation for motorists and even worse if traffic lights are out due to power cuts.
To help ease congestions during such periods, untrained and unauthorised civilians volunteer to direct traffic in the absence of the police.
However, Republic Press’ lenses captured an epically bizarre scene, when a prisoner, spotting the dark blue jail attire of the Ghana Prisons service was seen panhandling at the intersection near radio Gold as he directed traffic flow.
The prisoner who was obviously enjoying the fruit of his temporal freedom was among some 10 or more inmates who were out there with prison officer to clean the streets.
Whilst this went on, the officer who was supposed to supervise their activities, was seated a few metres away from the scene, covering his face with a bonnie hat to shield him from the harshness of the morning sun.
