The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (ESQ), has urged AngloGold Ashanti Ghana to identify specific areas where it can support the Ghana Prisons Service in its ongoing strategic reforms.
She made the call during a working visit to the AngloGold Ashanti Ghana Mines in Obuasi today as part of her three-day Ashanti Regional tour. The visit formed part of broader efforts to strengthen partnerships between the Service and key institutions in the private sector.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie was warmly received by the acting Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, Mr. Awvie Frey, and other members of the company’s management team. A roundtable discussion was held at the company’s conference room, where issues of mutual interest were deliberated.
During the interaction, the Director General expressed appreciation for the company’s hospitality and used the occasion to highlight potential areas of collaboration between AngloGold Ashanti and the Ghana Prisons Service.
These included agricultural mechanization, industrialization, and inmate rehabilitation programs.
She also introduced the management to her administration’s “Think Prisons 360 Degrees” agenda, which aims to transform the prison system through innovative and inclusive reforms.
She encouraged AngloGold Ashanti to explore and identify specific initiatives where their support could make a lasting impact, particularly under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework.
Mr. Frey, speaking on behalf of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, commended the Director General for her leadership and vision. He expressed the company’s readiness to engage further with the Ghana Prisons Service to develop collaborative projects that align with their CSR objectives.
The visit marks one of several high-level engagements undertaken by Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie during her Ashanti Regional tour, which seeks to promote partnerships, assess prison conditions, and interact with officers and inmates across the region.
