Richmond Botwe, a private security guard, has been convicted and remanded by an Adentan Circuit Court for attempting to rob a hairstylist of her iPhone 14, valued at GHC15,000.
The accused, who worked at Adjiriganor, reportedly left his post on April 5 and proceeded to Nmai Dzorn with a kitchen knife hidden in his trousers. His target: Tosin Adesokan, a Nigerian hairstylist and resident of the area.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Eric Abban, Botwe trailed Adesokan to her residence at Manfanco Apartment. While she was carrying water, he stabbed her in the back and attempted to snatch her phone.
Adesokan, however, fought back and raised the alarm, prompting co-tenants to intervene. They subdued Botwe and handed him over to the Nmai Dzorn Police. The knife was retrieved at the scene.
In court, Botwe admitted guilt, telling the judge he “needed money badly” and apologized for his actions. But presiding judge Mrs. Sarah Nyarkoa Nkansa noted that his explanation did not constitute a legal defense.
He was convicted on his own plea, and sentencing has been deferred to May 21, 2025.
