The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the appointment of Professor Ernest Kofi Davis as its new Director-General.

Prof. Davis’s career is a testament to his commitment to academic excellence and his vision for education. From humble beginnings to becoming a trailblazer in mathematics education, his journey is a source of inspiration for many.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Cape Coast, Prof. Davis began his formal education at Self-Reliance Kindergarten in 1976. He later attended Presbyterian Primary School, Abowinmu, and Aboom A.M.E. Zion School, completing his basic education at Experimental JHS, Bakatsir, in 1987.
Prof. Davis earned his secondary education at Mfantsipim School, obtaining his “O” and “A” Level certificates in 1991 and 1993, respectively.
Academic and Career Milestones
His passion for mathematics and education led him to pursue a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Mathematics at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where he graduated in 1999. He began his professional journey as a Senior Research Assistant in UCC’s Department of Science and Mathematics Education in 2000 and later transferred to the Institute of Education in 2002.
Prof. Davis’s academic journey extended globally. He earned an MA in Mathematics Education from Hiroshima University, Japan, under a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) scholarship in 2004. Later, he completed his PhD in Mathematics Education at Monash University, Melbourne, in 2010, thanks to two Australian government scholarships. By 2018, he had risen to the rank of Professor of Mathematics Education.
Professional Contributions
Prof. Davis’s contributions to education in Ghana and beyond are remarkable. He has supervised 11 PhD and 25 MPhil theses, authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in esteemed journals, and led the development of the national B.Ed curriculum for teacher preparation in 2018. As Provost of the College of Education Studies at UCC, he spearheaded initiatives that significantly impacted teacher training and curriculum design.
