Prof. John Ofosu-Anim appointed President and first VC of Presbyterian University Ghana

The Presbyterian University, Ghana has appointed Prof. John Ofosu - Anim as the new President and first Vice Chancellor of the Presbyterian University.

The Presbyterian University, Ghana has appointed Prof. John Ofosu – Anim as the new President and first Vice Chancellor of the Presbyterian University.

At the investiture ceremony on Friday, September 29, the Chancellor of the University and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, Prof. J. O. Y. Mante, who presented the staff of authority said, with Prof. Anim’s vast experience in the educational sector, the school, through his many visions will embrace several academic credits.

He took the opportunity and investiture ceremony to introduce the new President and first Vice-Chancellor to the University’s community and council. He said, this will provide the platform for the vice chancellor to publicly articulate his visions to the University community, while also accorded the University community an opportunity to extend a warm welcome to the new leadership.

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana established the University in 2003. Since its inception, the University has diligently worked to establish a conducive network and other relevant academic structure.

Additionally, it has cultivated a culture that aligns with the elective preachings of imparting diverse skills of service.

“Today create the provincial grounds, historically, of bestowing the authority and symbol of office of the University upon the Vice Chancellor, instructing him with the responsibility of leading the University to fulfilling its laid down roles. At this point, I would like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the chairperson of the Presbyterian University council, members of the provocative and the educational community world’, Prof. J. O. Y Mante said.

Professor John Ofosu – Anim is a distinguished academia whose journey through education and research has led him to become a respected figure in the academic world.

With a profound commitment to excellence and a wealth of international experience, he has contributed to the field of Agriculture by researching and publishing widely in relevant journals while also excelling in various administrative roles.

Educational background

Professor John Ofosu – Anim’s educational background started at Amanokrom Presbyterian Primary School and later continued at Kwame Kwaakye L/A primary school in Akim Oda.

His pursuit of knowledge then led him to Akyem Awisa Presbyterian Boys School and concluded his elementary education at Amanase L/A Middle School.

He later passed his common entrance examination, securing admission to Suhum Secondary Technical School, where he successfully completed his ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels respectively.

Subsequently, Professor Anim embarked on his higher education journey at the University of Ghana, where he obtained his BSc in Agriculture.

Following his graduation, he served as the special assistant to Professor E.V. Doku, who was the Dean of faculty of Agriculture, during his National Service from 1985 to 1987.

His pursuit of academic excellence took him to Japan after he had been awarded the prestigious Japanese Government Scholarship (Monbusho) to further his studies.

He earned an MSc in Agriculture from Kagawa University and a PhD in Agronomy from Nagoya University. These international experiences enriched his perspective and expanded his expertise.

Upon returning to Ghana, Prof. Ofosu – Anim joined the University of Ghana in 1996, marking the beginning of a remarkable academic journey.

Through his dedication to quality teaching, groundbreaking research, impactful extension work, and internationally acclaimed scholarship, he climbed the academic ranks from lecturer to Professor.

Throughout his career, Prof. Anim has imparted knowledge to students at various levels of tertiary education in Ghana. He has also mentored numerous undergraduates and graduate students, nurturing the next generation of scholars.

Prof. John Ofosu Anim has demonstrated exceptional administrative prowess. Before assuming his role as the Vice Chancellor of the Presbyterian University, he served as Pro Vice-Chancellor and briefly as Dean of the School of Agriculture and Science at Central University.

He also held key positions at the University of Ghana, including Dean of the School of Agriculture, acted as Provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences on a number of occasions, Head of the Department of Crop Science, and Vice Dean of the School of agriculture.

His extensive administrative contributions encompassed numerous Committees AND Boards, such as the Business and Executive Committee, Academic Board, and Ghana University Staff Superannuation Scheme Management Board, among others.

He also served as UTAG Secretary and President at the University of Ghana which has made him very skillful in dealing with Management and Staff negotiations.

Professor Anim is a beacon of dedication, knowledge, and leadership in the academic world. His tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on the institutions he has served, and his passion for success continues to inspire those who have had the privilege of working with him.

Prof. John Ofosu Anim has pledged further, to institute measures that will seek to bind the University and the community for common goal and positive establishments.
