The Agona Abusuapanin of Kwahu Praso No. 1, a farming community in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region, Op. Stephen Kofi Owusu is calling on the head of the Municipal Chief Executive of the Kwahu South Municipal Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Atta Ofori Senior (EMMA ATTA), the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command, and big politicians within the enclave of Kwahu to come out and clear their names if they are against the operation of galamsey by one Nana Wereko.
According to the family head, a young man by name Nana Wereko is destroying the River Pra and River Ahyiresu, which are their sources of water and land, in disguise as legal mining under the name of SOON Mining Company in the Praso community.
Speaking with the media, Mr. Owusu said the Nkawkaw District Police Commander, Mr. Kwakye Victor, had visited the area and warned this galamseyer, who initially was a security man for the aforementioned mining, when his activity was reported to them. Reports say Mr. Attiah George, the Divisional Police commander, also warned him, but the said galamseyer is still in operation.
He further argued that the said Galamseyer and the activities had been taken to court, and the court had ordered a halt to his operational zone, but nothing had been done about it.
He’s calling on the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), the Chiefs, and all stakeholders to come and clear their names from these operations since they are unable to drive him away from the said activities.
