The head of Sampa Government Hospital’s Emergency Unit, Mr. Issah Sumaila, has urged families to provide crucial aid to elderly and ill relatives to stem the tide of Brought In Dead (BID) cases in hospitals across the region.
In an interview with GIFTS FM, Mr. Sumaila emphasized the necessity of family support in maintaining the health and well-being of ageing and sick family members.
He stressed that as the body weakens with age, it requires a robust support system, including regular medical check-ups and attentive care from relatives, to prevent unnecessary deaths.
Mr. Sumaila urged families not to overlook the health of their elderly members, emphasizing the importance of routine health check-ups to ensure their continued well-being.
Neglecting the health of ageing or sick family members, he warned, only serves to exacerbate the prevalence of Brought In Dead cases in hospitals.
Furthermore, he issued a stern warning to young men against excessive alcohol consumption and drug abuse, particularly in the context of sexual activity.
He highlighted the detrimental effects of alcoholism and drug addiction on vital organs such as the liver, lungs, and heart, which can lead to sudden death or chronic diseases like stroke.
In conclusion, Mr. Sumaila’s message underscores the critical role of familial support in safeguarding the health and longevity of loved ones, while also cautioning against behaviours that jeopardize well-being.
